BUTCHERIES ARE UNHYGIENIC
They are wide open to every sort of dirt be it dust or flies.A recommended butchery should have glass windows to prevent flies from landing on the meat.
Generally, hygiene in any butchery should be of high standard but actually at Kitere hills, main market to Rongo University students, is very poor. That is why students who wish to take meat prefer ready made from university cafe to those from Kitere butchery.
THEY TRANSPORT LIKE SACK OF POTATOES.
I have witnessed meat being transported using bodaboda to the butchery several times.Imagine, meat put in chipsy container then of course full to brim, some hanging.Got it?No cover or if any, torn polythene.Meat is ready for transport to butchery. The dust of Kitere vicinity blowing all round.
To say, i think there is hygienic way of transporting meat.Unfortunately, not available in Kitere.
Once meat is mishandled hygienically, then consuming is like assuming cholera and typhoid.
Several questions arises without answers.Where are health officers? If they are there, what are their measures against cholera and any others disease that can be transmitted through this unhygienic way?
Comrades residing outside hostels depend mostly on the Kitere market for daily food.
